It's Really Almost August?!

How can that be?  It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming 2010!!  Time surely is flying and with that brings another edition of Five Question Friday!

1. Did you have a favorite blanket or toy as a kid? If so, do you still have it?
I surely did!  Ask my mom how many miles she drove in reverse to go retrieve my blankie from wherever I may have left it that day!  Once I left my blankie in my dad's car and when he mailed it back to me, my mom said it got lost in the mail.  It now lives in my mom's cedar chest in the same envelope it was mailed in over 20 years ago and has never been opened!  That was THE END of the blanket.  But don't worry, I just replaced it with a New Kids on the Block night gown.  I slept with that nasty thing for YEARS but I finally retired to my nightstand drawer.  I just can't bear to part with it permenantly!!  HA!

2. Do you dream in color?
I think so, but I'm not sure.  I've never really thought about that before.

3. How tall are you? Do you wish you were shorter or taller?
I am 5'4"  and I think I'm ok with that.  Though a little taller might be good for the illusion of being thinner?

4. If you could have anyone's (celeb or other) voice as the guide on your GPS, who would it be?
If Jack could talk, I would definitely pick his voice.  How cute to have a little boy's voice saying "turn right, arriving at via point!"

5. Do you return your shopping cart to the corral or leave it wherever in the parking lot?
I ALWAYS return it.  There is nothing more irritating than shopping carts all over the parking lot!

Have a GREAT weekend!

I'm Stuck {Thoughtless Thursday}

Photobucket

This is where I found Jack "hiding" yesterday!

He was stuck under the end table and I think he kinda liked it!

Our new patio table!
There are sure to be lots of good food and good times had around this little table!
Thanks Mama and Jeff!

Random Wednesday

Some more goodies I whipped up!

The cute pink and black burpies will be going to my friend Laurie, the blue, green and brown burpies will be sent to Heather and the "J" onesie and blue burpie I am keeping for Jack!  Leave a comment if you would like a set of your own!

I love that silly face and how wide his eyes get when he's "on a mission"!  As usual, he was after my camera.

Jack modeling his new onesie.  The scrape on his nose looks awful, but I promise it is not nearly as bad as it looks in pictures.

This was my attempt at a self-taken portrait of the two of us... obviously that didn't work out too well!  HA!

Faith and a Haircut

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

Our God is an AWESOME God!

I took these pictures from our backyard Sunday night.
Pretty amazing, huh?!

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

{1} It's Monday again, and after a lazy weekend this little boy DID NOT want to wake up for school this morning!

{2} Yesterday Jack got his first real "boo boo".  He fell down on the drive way and skinned his nose, but he's a tough little fella - he only cried for a minute!

{3} The patio should be finished today.  The roofers were at our house ALL DAY on Saturday, but finally got the roof all done and it looks really good!  The patio tied into the house nicely.

{4} Randy cooked burgers and Jack finally got to play outside!  It's been so hot (it still is) that without any shade we just couldn't have Jack outside for very long, but he loved playing under the new cover!

{5} NO MORE BOTTLES!  It has been over a week since Jack had the last one and now he's doing so good with a cup that I can pack the bottles away for good!

{6} He is getting so tall that he can get to almost anything he wants!  And he learned how to open the cabinet doors this weekend.  Guess it's time for more "baby proofing"!

{7} I'm so glad Jack LOVES the water!

{8} His float came from Target and is AWESOME!!

Hope yall had a great weekend!

Some Things I've Been Working On

What do you think?

These are the first burpies I've ever made and considering I've only been sewing for a month or so, I think they turned out pretty good!

These are my favorites!  I LOVE the bright colors and how the Cross turned out.

I have a few other sets too, but have not uploaded the pics yet.  I'll try to do that tomorrow!
Sew, what do you think??

***If you are interested in purchasing burpies from me, please email or leave a comment!***

Hope yall had a great weekend!

Fight Raiders FIGHT!

Yes, I know it's a little early for football season, but it's Five Question Friday over at Mama M's and the first question is "What were your school colors?" So, of course that got me all excited about the upcoming football season - only a few short weeks away! - and I just read Courtney's blog and she's excited for A&M football (boo Aggies) so my title really isn't all that random at all! HA!
Anyway, on to the questions!

1. What were your school colors?
Red and Black
Texas Tech Pictures, Images and Photos

High school was Red, White and Black too!

2. What's the best compliment you ever received?
"You're a good mommy!"
or
"Jack is just the happiest baby!"
The last statement rang true until his birthday on Monday - now his smiley, happy personality is woven with meltdowns and fits, but that's ok because he is
the.most.precious.little.boy.God.ever.did.make

and I LOVE him to pieces!

3. Do you buy cheap or expensive toilet paper?
Oh, who knows?
I think I try to buy the cheaper toilet paper, which in my opinion is still really expensive and I have yet to buy TP and remember which brands I like and which I don't.  (We take it all out of the package to put it in the cabinet for storage - easier access this way!)

4. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown for you? Or have you had one for someone else?
Ummm, I don't think so.
But my thirtieth birthday is just around the corner - hint, hint!  ;)

5. What is one material possession that you "can't live without"?
{For this I'm going to assume the necessities (house, car, clothing) are not material possessions.}
Cell Phone, duh!
I feel so "naked" if I don't have my phone with me.  And, I always forget it when I "need" it the most.
Ok all done with that!  Now on to other important happenings like...

Our new patio cover!

It's almost finished and it is going to be SOOOO NICE!  We have wanted this for a LONG time - the concrete was poured last summer right after we had Jack - and it's finally happening!  We love to sit outside and grill and whatnot, but with the Texas sun beating down on us in the summer, the heat is just unbearable!

Look how pretty it is underneath!!  And, ohmygoodness the cedar smells SOO good!  Randy will put up lights and fans after the guys get finished building.  We ran all of the electrical stuff and cable out there last night.  I swear there is not much Randy can't do!

In less than 7 weeks, we'll be BEACH BOUND!
And I cannot wait!
I NEED a VACATION!!!
***Apparently, spacing on blogger is messed up today.***

Thoughtless Thursday

Photobucket

Jack can walk REALLY fast and REALLY good when he's after the camera, trying to escape from the living room or high-tailing it anywhere he isn't supposed to be.  Little stinker!

It's prefectly normal to wear a straw hat on your foot... NO?
Notice he's also holding the remote - he still loves that thing!

Upset because I took the markers away because instead of color with them, he'd rather eat them.
 Mean Mommy!

And the fit continued with banging on the tray!

In walked Daddy, and Jack was a happy camper again!  Amazing!

We've been spending a lot of time admiring this little beauty and enjoying a few sippy-sippies in the evenings this week, so after weighing myself this morning, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I'm probably NOT going to win the weight loss challenge!  So no update on that today!  We'll see how it goes next Thursday!

Happy Thursday Everyone!!

The Face that Changed Our Lives FOREVER {and a birth story}

Benjamin Jack

This is the FACE that changed our lives FOREVER!

Friday, July 17, 2009
This was going to be my parents' last trip to visit before the baby was born (they live 4 hours away and I was due around August 12th) and we were going to get all of the last minute things ready for Baby Jack.  We went to dinner and the whole time I was pushing on my belly - some baby body part was constantly jabbed in my ribs - and my mom kept saying "I just wish he would come out."  Randy and I just kept laughing everytime she'd say it.  After dinner we went home and put together the stroller, hung some book shelves and did other little things to get ready.  Little did we know, we'd be meeting Baby Jack in a few short days.

Saturday, July 18th, 2009
My mom wanted to drive by the hospital where I was going to deliver, just in case I went into labor during the night and she had to drive up by herself, so we drove by the hospital and looked around a little.  I hadn't been to see the hospital yet, since our birthing classes weren't scheduled until the following weekend.  As we drove around the hospital, my mom said "Baby Jack don't you want to come out now, we're right here at the hospital?"  But, he wasn't quite ready, so we went shopping and grabbed a bite to eat.  My mom and I got pedicures and my feet were so swollen the man said, I bet you have that baby soon...

Sunday, July 19th, 2009 - THE BIG DAY
It was about 8:15 or so in the morning when I got a text from my BFF Heather letting me know her husband would be home from Afghanistan the following day.  I replied "Woo Hoo!  How exciting!"  And, at that very moment, laying in my bed, my water broke.  That might be the most disgusting thing I've ever experienced and let's just say I was prepared for all things baby, but it had slipped my mind to also prepare for that.  (TMI - I know!)  Anyway, I yelled at my mom and she knew immediately what was going on.  She went into panic mode and I just sat there like what am I supposed to do now?!?  I took a shower, called Heather, got all of my stuff together and called the doctor.  We headed to the hospital around 10:30am.

36 1/2 weeks - right before leaving for the hospital

I was checked in and put in a room by 11:15am and by that point my contractions were beginning to get uncomfortable.  The nurse checked me and I wasn't dialated at all.  I was ready for an epidural, but no one could get a hold of my doctor and I was delivering at a different hospital than I had originally planned (but still the one we visited the day before) so everyone was confused.  Thankfully I was the only woman delivering at that hospital that day, so they got everything straightened out fairly quickly.

I got my epidural and it was smooth sailing until the nurse was ready to start pitocin and checked me again.  She said "that's not a head - maybe a foot or elbow, but let me get another opinion" and the second nurse said the same thing.  So obviously that little body part that had been jabbing me in my ribs was either a head or a booty.  So, after a sonogram, it was decided we'd move to Plan B which was an emergency C-section.  I was prepped and rolled into surgery around 3:00pm and Jack was born at 3:45pm.  All of that is such a blur, since the anesthesia had made me really nauseous and I was so overwhelmed with all of the chitter-chatter going on around me.  I do remember thinking that it took forever for Jack to cry and I was worried about how big he was since he came 3 1/2 weeks early.  But he was perfectly healthy weighing 6lbs 8oz and was 18 1/2 inches long. I can't find any of my delivery pictures now, but will try to post a few some other time.

Proud new Daddy going to tell everyone that Mommy and Baby were doing well.

I was so thankful that the nurses let Randy and I just hang out with Jack for a while before they took him to get all cleaned up. I fed him and we just sat there staring at him in complete awe for what seemed like forever.  It was exactly how I wanted it to be!  I'm sure our families were getting a little antsy while waiting to see the new baby.

Everyone looking at the precious baby.

My parents, grandparents, aunts, best friend Heather and Randy's dad were at the hospital when Jack was born.  And we had so many visitors that night and over the next few days.
