Because Being a Full-Time Working Mommy {with a Blog*} isn't Enough...

I've invested in an embroidery machine, A LOT of fabric, ribbon, onesies and burpcloths and have opened an Etsy shop (more about that when I get a few more things made and listed) and someday plan to have a booth at a craft fair/trade days.  For now I'll just show you what I've done so far.  I still have some things to learn, but I think for my first time working with an embroidery machine, I'm doing pretty good!

And here's the quilt from yesterday that I made for my Memaw.  I think it turned out really cute!  I might have to make one of these for myself.  I love the colors and the fabrics!  I tried to put the date under her name, but that didn't work out so well!  Ripping embroidery out of an item is not something I want to do again.  HA!

Last night was a BUSY night at our house, but at least Jack cooperated with Mommy's need to sew and went to bed early, but don't worry he was up for his "midnight snacks" at about 10:00 and then again at 12:15.

Since turning ONE a few weeks ago, Jack has been waking up every night for a late night snack or two.  I'm not sure if it's because he doesn't take a bottle or get formula anymore, or if he's not eating enough during the day?

Whatever it is, he's as happy as can be after a snack and is usually ready to go back to bed.

Did/Do your kids do this?  If so, was it just a phase?  Any suggestions on how to get him to sleep through the night again?

* blogging, for me, takes a lot of time.  i.e. editing pics, what to write, fighting with blogger's formatting, etc.  i started this blog because i needed a hobby and it still wasn't enough.  HA!

Sneak Peek

...of the latest rag quilt I'm working on.  Rag quilts are the reason I wanted to get my sewing machine out in the first place and the reason I bought a new machine.  The first quilt was the first thing I'd sewn since high school and it took me FOREVER!  At least that's what it seemed like at the time, plus I followed an online tutorial which included A LOT of unneccesary steps!  Maybe I should write a tutorial.  I digress.  Anyway, it's been a while since I made that quilt and let me tell you this time around is MUCH EASIER and QUICKER!!  I should finish tonight.

My Memaw's birthday was yesterday, so I'm making this quilt for her.  {it will be a few days late, but it's the thought that counts, right?}  She's always been the quilter in our family, all hand sewn of course, so I decided it was time to make something for her.  Albeit a machine sewn quilt, I'm sure she'll love it just the same!  And it is quite different than the more traditional, beautiful quilts she's sewn and given to us.

I can't wait to show you the finished product... I'm sure it will be beautiful!  I just love the fabrics and the colors of this quilt.  I found a new fabric store and they have the BEST selection!  I'll definitely be shopping there again.

And just because no post is "complete" without a few pictures of Jack, here are some from this morning...

Ready for school.

Doesn't everyone take bath soap to school?

Do you know how hard it is to get a decent good picture of a toddler?  I took about 15 more this morning, but only these 3 were good enough to post and they are ok at best.

Simple Pleasures

Simple pleasures according to Jack

{one} Mama letting me out of "baby jail" (the living room) to play in the tupperware cabinet.

{two} Daddy giving me chocolate ice cream before bed.

See that happy face!
(I'm not sure what's up with the tongue sticking out, but he does it all the time!)

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

{1} GG - thank you for all of Jack's new clothes!  His mama He loves getting new clothes and packages in the mail!

{2} This is where we found Jack playing yesterday.
I'm not sure how he got into the basket, but once there he was perfectly content to just sit and play with his blocks.

{3} Nope, Jack didn't pour water on himself, that is all drool.  Yuck!  There must be some more toothies on the way!

{4} The weight loss challenge is officially over!!
And I would love to report that I lost a ton of weight, but I didn't.  I am just happy to have not gained any.  The scale did fool me the other day and read about 4-5lbs lighter than it should have.  I was super excited only to weigh again later that day and see the "real" number.  O'well, at least Heather dropped out of the competition before it was officially over.  Win-Win for both of us!  HA!

{5} Speaking of Heather - she could use some prayers!
She is an ARMY wife and her husband is scheduled to deploy at the end of August.  No deployment is ever easy, but this one will be her first away from "home", with 2 babies (3 1/2 years and 4 months) and Dale's job is more dangerous this time around.  Please pray for strength and peace for her and safety for Dale.

{6} I just bought an embroidery machine!
My little sewing hobby is becoming quite expensive, but I LOVE it!  Stay tuned for lots of handmade goodies!

Have a great week!

It's Really Almost August?!

How can that be?  It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming 2010!!  Time surely is flying and with that brings another edition of Five Question Friday!

1. Did you have a favorite blanket or toy as a kid? If so, do you still have it?
I surely did!  Ask my mom how many miles she drove in reverse to go retrieve my blankie from wherever I may have left it that day!  Once I left my blankie in my dad's car and when he mailed it back to me, my mom said it got lost in the mail.  It now lives in my mom's cedar chest in the same envelope it was mailed in over 20 years ago and has never been opened!  That was THE END of the blanket.  But don't worry, I just replaced it with a New Kids on the Block night gown.  I slept with that nasty thing for YEARS but I finally retired to my nightstand drawer.  I just can't bear to part with it permenantly!!  HA!

2. Do you dream in color?
I think so, but I'm not sure.  I've never really thought about that before.

3. How tall are you? Do you wish you were shorter or taller?
I am 5'4"  and I think I'm ok with that.  Though a little taller might be good for the illusion of being thinner?

4. If you could have anyone's (celeb or other) voice as the guide on your GPS, who would it be?
If Jack could talk, I would definitely pick his voice.  How cute to have a little boy's voice saying "turn right, arriving at via point!"

5. Do you return your shopping cart to the corral or leave it wherever in the parking lot?
I ALWAYS return it.  There is nothing more irritating than shopping carts all over the parking lot!

Have a GREAT weekend!

I'm Stuck {Thoughtless Thursday}

Photobucket

He was stuck under the end table and I think he kinda liked it!

Our new patio table!
There are sure to be lots of good food and good times had around this little table!
Thanks Mama and Jeff!

Random Wednesday

Some more goodies I whipped up!

The cute pink and black burpies will be going to my friend Laurie, the blue, green and brown burpies will be sent to Heather and the "J" onesie and blue burpie I am keeping for Jack!  Leave a comment if you would like a set of your own!

I love that silly face and how wide his eyes get when he's "on a mission"!  As usual, he was after my camera.

Jack modeling his new onesie.  The scrape on his nose looks awful, but I promise it is not nearly as bad as it looks in pictures.

This was my attempt at a self-taken portrait of the two of us... obviously that didn't work out too well!  HA!
